BELLEFONTAINE— A pedestrian was killed and another critically injured in a hit-skip accident early today, July 11, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Marysville Post.
Jeffrey S. Gates, 48, of Port Jefferson was dead at the scene in the accident involving an older model blue four door vehicle, whose driver left the scene, according to the patrol. Virgil S. Gates, 24, of Port Jefferson, is in critical condition at Grant Medical Center, where he was taken by Med-Flight,
The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Ohio 366 south of Indian Lake in Stokes Township. The two men were attempting to cross the road near Lakeview Harbor when they were struck by the vehicle, according to the release. The driver fled southbound on Ohio 235. The vehicle is reported to be a late-80s to mid-90s General Motors vehicle, possible a Chevrolet Celebrity or Buick with dark blue patches of touch up paint on the bottom of both passenger-side doors.
Authorities believe it’s front end was damaged in the accident. Witnesses or those with information regarding the vehicle involved should contact the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 937-593-2075.
