A Greenville woman was in fair condition Sunday morning at Miami Valley Hospital after a two-part motorcycle accident Saturday that resulted in a man being charged with riding drunk.
Diane Rhoades, 53, lost control of her motorcycle on Fenner Road south of Pleasant Hill during a benefit poker run Saturday afternoon. But Miami County Sheriff’s Deputy Josh Adkins said as Rhoades and her bike were sliding separately to a stop, Rhoades was struck by another rider in the group, who then rode away.
Adkins said Rhoades suffered head trauma and was conscious but had no memory of the accident. She was transported to the hospital via CareFlight helicopter.
Sheriff’s officials took statements from several witnesses, getting a description of the man who hit Rhoades, as well as a list of checkpoints along the poker run route. Adkins said deputies found the man at a checkpoint, where he confessed to hitting Rhoades.
Adkins said the 47-year-old man, whose name was not released, has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and other charges could be added pending further investigation.
