MORAINE — Thirteen people accused of drug trafficking throughout the Miami Valley were arrested early Thursday, Jan. 28, following a six-month investigation by local and federal law enforcement agencies.
Undercover members of the Tactical Crime Suppression Unit Narcotics Team made the drug buys for crack cocaine, marijuana, pills and stolen merchandise, Moraine police Lt. Tracy Harpster said.
The narcotics unit supervisor said the team arrested 11 people at their last known addresses.
They also served arrest papers on Henry Wilkerson, 41, of Dayton, at the Greene County Jail (he was there on a another matter), and on Sheila Osborn, 55, also of Dayton, a patient at Miami Valley Hospital.
Both face charges of drug trafficking in the vicinity of a school.
Harpster said detectives purchased stereo equipment stolen from vehicles in Miami Twp.
The task force, developed in 2009, is gaining momentum, Moraine Detective Paul Guess said.
“This is our way of letting them know, we’ve only just begun to put a dent on drug trafficking in the southern suburbs,” he said.
The unit includes Centerville, Germantown, Kettering, Miamisburg, Moraine, Oakwood, Springboro and West Carrollton.
Thursday’s round-up included team members, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Miami Twp. police and Montgomery County Children Services officials.
Harpster said the team is a result of area police chiefs realizing “that fighting drugs is a regional effort.”
On Nov. 21, the team raided the apartment of West Carrollton resident Joesph Pattson, 2127 Sidneywood Drive, and seized $376,000 in cash stored in shoeboxes and more than 400 heroin capsules, Harpster said.
Guess said Pattson was later arrested and is now facing federal drug trafficking charges.
