And late Friday afternoon, Sept. 11, West Chester Twp. police issued an arrest warrant for a 17-year-old Forest Park boy in connection with the death of Amber Robinson, a sophomore at Lakota West High School.

Stabbing victim an honor roll student

Tascha Robinson said she dropped off her 15-year-old daughter at the bus stop Thursday morning.

“That was the last time I saw my little girl,” she said at her Deer Track Road home, tears streaming down her face.

Family and friends gathered Friday at the Robinsons’ West Chester Twp. home, consoling one another over their loss. They described the honor roll student as outgoing, responsible and popular.

Robinson said her daughter had planned to attend Spelman College, a private historically black liberal arts college in Atlanta. Amber is survived by an older brother, four younger brothers and two younger sisters.

Amber Robinson was stabbed Thursday night at the North Pointe Townhomes off Muhlhauser Road amid circumstances police are still trying to piece together.

Bond $1M for suspect in slaying of teenager

A suspect in the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old Lakota West High School sophomore was arrested late Thursday, Sept. 10, within hours of her death.

Bond was set Friday morning at $1 million for Khrendon D. Gray, 18, of Meadowglen Drive in Springfield Twp. West Chester Twp. police say Gray is the man who stabbed to death Amber Robinson during a melee Thursday night at the North Pointe Townhomes off Muhlhauser Road.

Gray was arrested shortly after the incident by Springfield Twp. police Thursday just outside of Mount Healthy. Gray was charged with one count of murder in the girl’s death.

Robinson’s family said they do not know Gray, who was arraigned Friday morning before Judge Dan Haughey in Butler County Area III Court in West Chester Twp.

Gray was served a copy of the charges he now faces and was appointed an attorney.

He spoke briefly when asked about an attorney before being led away in handcuffs and leg shackles.

“I guess I’m going to have to get one,” Gray said. “I’m not going to plead murder for something that I didn’t do.”

Robinson bled to death after being stabbed in the left side with a blade that pierced her heart, according to Butler County Coroner Dr. Richard Burkhardt. Burkhardt said she suffered no other injuries.

‘Large fight’ at apartment complex

West Chester Twp. police officers responded to a report of a disturbance just before 8:15 p.m. and found Robinson lying in the middle of Triangle Drive at West Wind Drive with a stab wound.

She was transported by ambulance from the North Pointe Townhomes to Mercy Hospital Fairfield, where she was pronounced dead.

The stabbing is believed to be connected to the “large fight” involving 40 to 50 people in the area of Triangle Drive and West Wind Court, according to police. The incident was called in to emergency dispatchers at 8:12 p.m. Also responding to aid West Chester police were officers from Evendale, Sharonville and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, who helped get the situation under control, police said.

West Chester Twp. police spent most of the late evening Thursday and early morning Friday at the crime scene, analyzing blood evidence and other items at the scene and going door-to-door talking to potential witnesses in the apartment complex. Police cordoned off the area with yellow tape and were seen placing items into evidence bags.

The following day of the stabbing, just 25 feet from where blood still stained the pavement, someone had erected a memorial that included candles, a Bible passage, balloons and a stuffed teddy bear.

Chief: Good police work led to suspects

West Chester Twp. police Chief Col. Erik Niehaus said Friday he was pleased with the speed of Gray’s arrest.

“There was a lot of good work all around,” Niehaus said. “We’re real happy that we were able to make an arrest so quickly in this kind of a case.”

Late Friday afternoon, West Chester Twp. police also issued an arrest warrant for a 17-year-old Forest Park boy .

As of Friday night, he remained at large.

Although pleased with the police work that led to finding suspects in the 15-year-old’s death, Niehaus’ thoughts did not stray from the Robinson family.

“It’s devastating. It’s a terrible tragedy to see someone, anyone, with a life ahead of them become a victim like this.

“It’s just extremely unfortunate,” said Niehaus, who had sent his condolences to the grieving family.

Niehaus declined to provide further details of Thursday’s incident, including motive and the relationship of the victim with the suspect pending the ongoing investigation.
