Abduction attempt leads to juvenile’s arrest

XENIA — A teenage boy from Xenia could face serious juvenile delinquency charges after an incident on Commonwealth Drive early Monday, June 22, during which the boy tried to forcibly remove a girl from her house.

Greene County prosecutors planned to file several charges including kidnapping, aggravated burglary and attempted rape against the boy, who is younger than 16, Xenia police Capt. Scott Anger said.

The prosecutor’s office did not return calls Monday seeking comment.

At 1:12 a.m., police responded to the 2300 block of Commonwealth Drive, near U.S. 35 and Bellbrook Avenue, on a report of a juvenile suspect entering a residence through a window.

Residents told police the boy found a girl in her bedroom, put duct tape on her mouth and tried to physically remove her from the residence, Anger said.

The girl was not seriously hurt. The suspect fled on foot.

Anger said police have no reason to believe the suspect knew the victim, who was 3 or 4 years younger.

As the boy fled the house, police in the area on reports of a person breaking into parked vehicles realized the suspect description from both incidents was similar.

Officers were checking the residence of a possible suspect near Shannon Lane, about 1 1/2 miles away, just after the Commonwealth Drive call came in, Anger said.

They found the boy matching the suspect’s description arriving at the residence. Anger said the teen was found with items that may have been used in the crime.

He said the boy was on house arrest from previous charges, and was being held in juvenile detention on that matter while police and the prosecutor’s office reviewed the case.
