DARKE COUNTY — A Greenville man was arrested early Thursday after Darke County Sheriff’s deputies said he led them on a 23-minute vehicle pursuit in the county.
Kalob Gray, 33, is currently being held in the Darke County Sheriff’s Office on a felony robbery warrant. Gray could face additional charges because of the pursuit, according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Shawn Trissel.
The pursuit started shortly after deputies received a tip that Gray, who was wanted on the warrant, was at the Stardust Motel on Ohio 49, near the southern area of Greenville, Trissel said.
A deputy arrived at the motel about 3:07 a.m. and observed a white Ford Escort pulling out of the Motel parking lot. The Ford matched the description of the vehicle the sheriff’s office was told that Gray was in.
The sheriff’s deputy ran the Ford’s license plate and determined that the car was the same vehicle that the sheriff’s office was trying to find.
The sheriff’s deputy also observed that the Ford’s driver was a female.
When the sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop, the Ford’s driver did not stop the vehicle and continued north on Ohio 49, turned west on Eidson Road and went south on Ohio 121.
The Ford eventually stopped on Ohio 121, south of Bishop Road. That’s when the female driver jumped out and the male passenger got into the driver’s seat. The woman ran off to the side of the road while the Ford continued south on Ohio 121. The Ford then traveled to Main Drive, where the car drove through the village of Wayne Lakes.
The car then went up North Drive and side-swiped a fence and a telephone box before going off the road near the intersection of North Drive and Ottawa Drive. That’s when deputies were able to capture the male driver, who they later identified as Gray.
The pursuit reached speeds up to 110 mph.
The robbery that Gray is accused of committing happened in Greenville.
The woman, 24, who jumped out of the Ford was not arrested. Trissel would not say if she would face any charges. Sheriff deputies have not determined why the woman was with Gray or if she is related. There is no indication that the woman was held against her will.
