CENTERVILLE — A 17-mile chase reached speeds up to 120 mph and resulted in the arrest of a Centerville man Monday, Nov. 2.
Shawn Woodruff, 45, of 140 E. Elmwood Drive, Centerville, is in Montgomery County Jail, charged with felony fleeing and eluding, according to Ohio State Patrol Sgt. Darren Weathington of the Dayton Post.
Woodruff led two Ohio State Patrol cars on the chase, which ended near East Elmwood Drive off Ohio 48, troopers said. Trooper Bryan Cook spotted a vehicle traveling 80 mph in a 55 mph zone on southbound I-75 at milepost 50 in Moraine at 1:54 a.m.
Weathington said Woodruff drove through 34 stop signs and four traffic lights without stopping. From I-75 Woodruff went onto I-675 and drove into Centerville, driving through the Pleasant Hill Plat area where he lived, Weatherington said. Centerville police set up a perimeter with their police patrol cars, he said. At 2:11 a.m. Woodruff jumped out of his car on a street near East Elmwood Drive and fled on foot, Weatherington said.
Trooper Cook, who had first pursued Woodruff with his lights on and then his sirens on I-75, apprehended him, Weathington said, adding that Woodruff was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Centerville had a warrant from Kettering Municipal Court for Woodruff's arrest, Weatherington said.
Centerville officer Matt Dunn said Centerville plans to charge Woodruff with criminal damaging for driving over the grass by an apartment complex on Mimosa Drive.
