Child porn on computer lands man 8-year prison sentence

DAYTON — A West Carrollton man who took his computer to a repair shop only to have the shop employees discover child pornography on the laptop has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison.
U.S. District Judge Walter H. Rice late Tuesday, Sept. 22, sentenced James Kevin Brown, 53, to the prison term, to be followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
On March 26, 2007, employees of a West Milton computer repair shop found hundreds of child porn images when they were fixing Brown’s computer, according to information released Wednesday by the FBI. Employees called police, who seized the computer. When Brown returned the next day to pick up the laptop, employees phoned police, who took him in for questioning.
The FBI said the Miami Valley Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory found 1,275 images of child porn on the computer.
Brown pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography in July 2007, admitting he downloaded the images.
