HARRISON TWP., Montgomery County — Church members managed to catch and detain a man they said broke into the church early Monday, Oct. 5.

Capt. Jeff Papanek of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect caught breaking and entering into the Victory Ministries Church, 4104 N. Main St., this morning has been identified as Kenneth White, 27, of 5041 Norris Drive, Dayton. “He was trying to steal a safe,” Papanek said.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched shortly after midnight to the church on the report of a breaking and entering.

He entered the church through a second-floor window, Papanek said. The church deacon noticed lights on in the office area and entered the church with other church members. They found the suspect hiding in the basement, according to a sheriff’s report.

White fought with the church members to try to get away, but they were able to detain him until deputies arrived and took him into custody, the report said. He was transported to the Montgomery County Jail where he’s been charged with breaking and entering, Papanek said.
