HARRISON TWP. — The man found dead on Friday, June 19, at the troubled Northland Village Apartments has been identified as Robin Etherington, 54, of Troy, by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
Etherington may have been shot prior to crashing his car, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched at 10:17 p.m. Friday to 2073 Republic Drive in Harrison Twp. on a report that someone had crashed a vehicle into a vacant building.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle may have received a gunshot wound prior to the crash, deputies said. The driver identified as Etherington was pronounced dead at the scene.
The matter remains under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit.
Northland Villages Apartments, a federally funded Section 8 complex, has been the scene of four previous injury shooting since the beginning of the year. One of those shootings also resulted in a death.
Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority will partner with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to assign two deputies there exclusively for one year starting in July.
In the six-month period since Jan. 1, deputies have fielded 1,198 calls for service to the complex, according to sheriff’s office records.
