DAYTON — A former Northmont teacher and coach was sentenced Wednesday, Sept. 23, to 60 days in jail and probation for his inappropriate contact with one of his athletes.

Loren Meadows, 35, must report to the county jail within the next 30 days to begin his sentence, Montgomery County Assistant Prosecutor Erin Claypool said. She said Meadows will be under supervised probation by a sex-offender specialist for up to 5 years.

Meadows, accused of having sexual relations with a former student, pleaded guilty, Aug. 25, to three misdemeanor counts of contributing to the unruliness of a minor. He could have faced up to six months in jail on each count.

Montgomery County prosecutors originally filed two counts of felony sexual battery against Meadows. A grand jury spent several days hearing testimony before a plea agreement was reached.

Under that agreement, Meadows will surrender his teaching license and coaching certificate. He also agreed to never coach minors.

The charges involved a 17-year-old girl, according to Union Police Chief Michael Blackwell. The offenses happened in April and May, when Meadows was her coach and teacher, Blackwell said.

Clinton County deputies discovered Meadows and the girl, both partially unclothed, in a car parked in front of a deserted house on June 23. According to police, Meadows gave a false age to officers and briefly wrestled with them.

That triggered an investigation in Union, where Meadows lived, as well as Englewood and Clayton.

Meadows was convicted in August in Clinton County Municipal Court of misdemeanor resisting arrest. Misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business and contributing to the delinquency of a minor were dismissed, according to court records.

Meadows was fined $375, plus court costs, sentenced to a suspended 30 days in jail and ordered on supervised probation for two years.

Meadows, who has resigned from the school district, taught social studies and served as assistant football coach and head boys and girls track coach.
