DAYTON — The Oregon District Business Association is gathering donations for a reward fund for information leading to the arrests of those committing crimes in the district and the rest of downtown Dayton.
Mike Martin, president of the business association, said crime rates in downtown reached historic lows last year and appear on track for this year. Then came a rash of stickups and other violent crime.
The rewards “would send a message of zero tolerance for crime in our downtown community,” he said.
Martin said individuals and downtown businesses have begun to donate to the fund.
“We hope to set this up as a revolving fund that will continue to help police downtown,” he said.
Anyone with information on any crime in the city should call 333-COPS.
