A Huber Heights doctor accused of hiring someone to kill his ex-wife is the second such case being investigated this week by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Phil Plummer said.

Robert E. Rose, 26, while in custody at the county jail, is accused of contracting and paying someone to kill a man, Plummer said.

Rose is being held on burglary charges, but wanted a man dead over a domestic issue, said sheriff’s Maj. Scott Landis, who declined to elaborate.

“We had a stretch where we had two of these (murder-for-hire) jobs and now we’ve had two in one week,” Plummer said. “It’s bizarre to say the least, but luckily we were able to stop them.”

Someone in the jail told authorities about Rose’s alleged plan. Plummer’s investigators are expected to present that case to the prosecutor’s office today, Oct. 23.

Wednesday, detectives arrested Dr. Shafik Ahmad on charges of conspiring to kill his former spouse. They are going through a custody battle over a child, said his attorney, John H. Rion.

Plummer said it’s unclear how both men found someone they trusted to share their plans, but it’s usually a “word-of-mouth thing.”

In Rose’s case, Plummer said, the person hired for the slaying could face charges.

It is unlikely Ahmad’s hire will face charges since that person cooperated with authorities, Plummer said.
