KETTERING — Four people were arrested for operating vehicles while under the influence during the first phase of the Kettering Police Department’s saturation patrols, according to Officer Michael Burke.
The purpose of the patrols is to locate and stop impaired drivers, Burke said Friday, Nov. 27. The patrols are a part of the police department’s efforts to try and combat OVI offenses, which can increase during holiday weekends.
The four people, which included a 43-year-old female, a 58-year-old male, a 36-year-old male and a 24-year-old male, were all arrested at various locations between 9 a.m. on Wednesday and 2 a.m. on Thursday.
The second half of the saturation patrols will begin 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 and last until 3 a.m. Sunday, Nov.29.
Police want to emphasize the importance of not driving after consuming alcoholic beverages and having a plan for transportation.
State law says that it is illegal to operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of .08 or above. Additional officers working during these patrols will be funded by grants from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, the Montgomery County Combined OVI Task Force and local court funds, according to Burke.
