WEST CARROLLTON — A man told police he was shot while attempting to buy drugs from a dealer on Ludwell Place in West Carrollton late Tuesday night, according to Police Chief Richard Barnhart.
Barnhart said the wounded man was able to drive himself to an Ameristop gas station at 1903 West Alex Road, and he called 911 from there. The man, whose identity was not released, was transported by ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, Barnhart said.
A dispatcher said the call from the gas station lot came into the West Carrollton emergency dispatch center at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Barnhart said the wounded man admitted to police that he had come to a location on Ludwell to meet a man and make an illegal drug transaction. When he arrived, he found his connection was with another man.
Barnhart said the man became suspicious during the transaction, and one of the men attempted to get into the truck he was driving. As he was attempting to elude the man, one of the two men fired a shot hitting him in the lower back.
“The shot went through and through in a part of his body where it didn’t do fatal damage,” Barnhart said.
“Buying drugs on the street is a dangerous business altogether,” Barnhart said. “You don’t really know what you’re buying, and you’re buying it from people you don’t really know.”
Barnhart said police believe they know the identity of the dealer the wounded man had arranged to meet. The case will be investigated by West Carrollton detectives.
