Man 'messing around' with handgun shoots himself in Sugarcreek Twp.

BELLBROOK — A 20-year-old man accidentally shot himself in his home on North Lakeman Avenue near Ohio 725 on Thursday night, Sept. 2, police said.

The man was alert and oriented when he was rushed by helicopter ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital, said Sugarcreek Twp. Sgt. Mark White.

The man told police he was “messing around” with the small caliber handgun in his living room when it discharged, striking him in the lower abdomen.

As of 9:30 p.m., the man was in surgery and is in serious condition.
