BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek man charged with murdering his father is fighting his extradition from West Virginia.
Pardeep Saini, 31, did not waive extradition during an 11 a.m. Wednesday hearing in front of Judge David W. Hummel Jr. in the Marshall County Circuit Court in Moundsville, W. Va.
Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office Chief Legal Assistant Cheryl Duke said that after the hearing, Saini was remanded to the Northern Regional Jail.
Duke said the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office must obtain a governor’s warrant to transport Saini back to Ohio. Duke said Saini was appointed a public defender, John Anderson, for only the extradition process.
Greene County Prosecutor Stephen K. Haller said Saini will be held without bond for 90 days. Haller said they will send paperwork to Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s office for certification and that will get forwarded to West Va. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and eventually to the circuit court.
Haller estimated the process to take between 45 to 90 days. He said the case would not go to a grand jury until Saini returns to Ohio.
Beavercreek police allege that Saini shot and killed his father in their Beavercreek residence early Monday morning.
Onkar Saini, 66, was found dead in his bedroom of multiple gunshot wounds at 2436 Rumford Way at about 6:30 a.m. Monday.
Beavercreek police Capt. Jeff Fiorita said the murder suspect was apprehended late Tuesday morning by the West Virginia State Police without incident at Palace of Gold — a Hare Krishna facility — in Moundsville, which is about 15 miles south of Wheeling.
Fiorita said detectives in the case tracked Saini’s credit card and found it was used twice at 10:30 a.m. at a fast-food restaurant. Beavercreek detectives drove Tuesday night to West Virginia to collect Saini if he waived extradition.
