VANDALIA — A man whose large dog attacked and killed a miniature dachshund paid a $25 fine Monday, Oct. 19, in Vandalia Municipal Court on a minor misdemeanor of having a dog at-large.
Douglas Pelsor, 29, paid the fine, plus $111 in court costs, and opted to not appear in court.
A Montgomery County Animal Resource Center officer had charged Pelsor after his male, brindle mastiff-mix killed Julie Sheil’s miniature dachshund, Sophie, while she was walking her in a Butler Twp. neighborhood on Oct. 5.
Sheil, who owns two other dogs, doesn’t think enough has been done.
She’d like to see the mastiff-mix, which she called “a menace to society,” put down so it can’t attack again.
“That’s what I would do if one of my dogs killed another dog,” she said. “As much as it would pain me if one of my dogs did that, it’s a no-brainer.”
