MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — Police from two jurisdictions are investigating a series of incidents involving guns Thursday evening.

Miami Township Sgt. Paul Nienhaus said police do not yet know if an armed robbery, a shooting, and carjacking that occurred within a few blocks of each other in Moraine and Miami Twp. just after 8 p.m. are connected.

The first call to emergency dispatchers came from Rhapsody Drive in Miami Twp., where residents reported hearing four to five gunshots and finding shell casings in the street. No one was injured.

Then shots rang out in the alley behind the Gas America, 2631 West Alex Bell Road, in Moraine. Two men said they were walking in the alley when two men approached and attempted to rob them at gunpoint. The suspects were driving a dark-colored Saturn sedan. Shots were fired as the victims fled and one man was hit in the arm. He was able to run to a friend’s residence in the Spring Hill apartment complex on Spring Falls Drive and call for help. His injury was not life-threatening, Nienhaus said.

While responding to that call, police were notified of a report of a carjacking on Eagle Ridge Drive, just around the corner from the Gas America. A man who was in the process of moving out of the Eagle Ridge Apartments was approached in the parking lot by two men in dark clothing who brandished a gun and demanded his keys, police said.

They left in his 2010 dark gray Nissan Ultima with license plate number FDN5080.

“We had three major events all at about the same time,” Nienhaus said. Police do not know if any or all of the incidents are related.
