TROY – A Troy man who posted multiple profiles on the Internet to obtain nude pictures of children was sentenced to 17 months in prison for pandering sexually oriented material involving minors.
“I made a couple real bad judgment calls,” Stephen Royse, 57, told Judge Robert Lindeman at sentencing Monday, Oct. 26, in Miami County Common Pleas Court.
Lindeman said Royse had four cell phones with pictures of minors on them.
“To me, that’s not a bad judgment call. To me, that’s intentional,” Lindeman said.
Royse was charged by police this summer after they received a call from a female juvenile in Columbus that Royse had met on the Internet while posing as a female. The girl called because she was concerned about the “female.”
The juvenile admitted sending nude photos to Royse, believing he was a woman, police said.
Police found the cell phones with the illegal photos of minors during the investigation.
Royse later pleaded guilty to six felony counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving minors.
He was sentenced to 17 months on each charge with the sentences to be served concurrently.
Royse was classified a Tier II sex offender. The designation will require him, following prison release, to register his address with the sheriff in the county where he lives every 180 days for 25 years.
