FAIRFIELD — A private “Sweet 16” party at a Fairfield nightclub Tuesday night, Nov. 24, turned into a dangerous crowd situation and resulted in police action, an injury and at least one arrest.

The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. at Metropolis Nightclub at Cincinnati Mall. According to Fairfield Police Chief Mike Dickey, someone texted several hundred of “their closest friends” who then showed up at the nightclub that had been closed for the private party.

The co-owner of the club, Mike Straight, said that someone sent a false text message, saying there was a free teen party at the club, according to our media partners, Local12. Straight said hundreds of kids showed up and, when he tried to explain that the club was closed for a private, invitation-only “Sweet 16” party, the crowd became unruly.

Dickey said peppers balls were fired at walls to help break up the crowd.

“Our objective was just to get a bunch of people moved out,” Dickey said.

The crowd was dispersed by about 10 p.m., according to the chief. Fairfield police were assisted by Butler County sheriff’s deputies.

A juvenile was cited for disorderly conduct and one was injured while jumping over a wall at the parking garage, according to police.
