TROY — A teacher at the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School in Piqua arrested on suspicion of engaging in sexual contact with a student has been placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the felony case against him.
Eric Williams taught electrical trades as a career technical instructor, school Superintendent Nancy Luce said Monday, Jan. 4.
He has been with the school since August 2007.
“At this point, we are awaiting the official outcome of the investigation by the police and are working with them. From there, we’ll determine our next step,” Luce said.
Williams, 32, was arrested by Troy police on Dec. 30 after he was found after 7 p.m. at Duke Park in the company of the juvenile female. The officer was checking the park after its closing time, which is after dark.
Williams was arraigned Monday in Miami County Municipal Court on one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony. A preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 12.
Troy police Capt. Chris Anderson said the investigation is continuing.
