ENGLEWOOD — Police have arrested a man matching the description of the pickup truck driver who fled a traffic stop today, Oct. 22, in front of the Miami Valley CTC.
Shawn Bolding, 41, of Dayton was arrested and jailed on suspicion of drug possessions after police found him — covered in mud and soaking wet — walking north on Hoke Road near the scene of the traffic stop two hours earlier, according the Sgt. Mike Lang.
According to the sergeant, an Englewood officer stopped a 2003 Ford F-250 traveling south on Hoke around 7:55 a.m. The vehicle was clocked at 38 mph through a school zone with a speed limit of 20 mph.
Lang said the driver stuck his head out the window and asked if the officer was stopping him. When the officer ordered the driver to turn off the engine, the driver gunned the engine and “peeled out”, Lang said. The officer started his pursuit. The pickup driver attempted to turn west on Westbrook Road, but lost control, slamming into a brick wall at the entrance to the Moss Creek development.
By the time the officer caught up, the driver had fled on foot into the subdivision.
Englewood, Trotwood and Clayton officers attempted to set up a perimeter but were unable to find the driver.
Around 9:30 a.m., the original Englewood officer was clearing the scene on Hoke Road when he saw Bolding, who he recognized as matching his memory of the driver, walking north on Hoke, near Salem Pike. He stopped Bolding and found what appeared to be crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia in his pockets, Lang said.
Officers also discovered there were numerous arrest warrants out for Bolding, Lang said. The sergeant said the truck’s owner had allowed Bolding use of the truck.
Lang said the investigation is continuing.
