WEST CARROLLTON — A man on the lam for allegedly beating a girlfriend during a violent attack in West Carrollton in September was apprehended by authorities early Thursday.
Police said Robert A. Gearing, 26, was arrested at a home on Altrim Road in Dayton. He is charged with felonious assault, aggravated burglary and kidnapping for the alleged Sept. 1 attack inside the woman’s apartment where he was staying.
Gearing, who the woman said was homeless, is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned in court today .
In the Sept. 1 incident, two of the woman’s neighbors called 911 after seeing Gearing “dragging her by the hair and punching her face while he had her in a head-lock,” according to a police report.
The woman told police Gearing became “irate” on Sept. 1 after she confronted him with something she learned about his background. She said he began to beat her, attempted to “suffocate her with a bedsheet.” She said when she tried to leave, Gearing blocked her way.
She was treated and released at Sycamore Medical Center.
