HUBER HEIGHTS — A Huber Heights police officer was injured while attempting to make a DUI stop at Brandt Pike and Nebraska Avenue early Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Officer Shawn Waler, 27, was treated for minor back and neck injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital and released.

While Waler was attempting to make the stop at about 2:36 a.m., the driver of a dark blue Saturn fled and a short pursuit occurred, Huber Heights Police Sgt. Chris Johnson said.

The suspect jumped from his moving vehicle at Powell Road and Tomberg Street and ran. The driverless vehicle continued to roll at a dangerous speed and the officer pulled his cruiser in front of it to prevent it from possibly striking a house, Johnson said.

A Dayton police K-9 unit arrived and attempted to track the suspect who ran south from the intersection, but was unsuccessful.

“The guy got away from us,” Johnson said, noting that the vehicle was later reported stolen by an elderly Tennessee man visiting relatives in this area.

Anyone with information, should call Huber Heights police at (937) 233-1565.
