WEST CARROLLTON — VRI, a medical alert company in West Carrollton, has offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the Monday, July 27, beating death of 85-year-old veteran North E. Woodall.
Police believe Woodall was attacked at his 1028 Walton Ave. home in Dayton in an apparent home invasion. The decorated retired Army sergeant major served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
“This is a man who should have been riding down the street in a parade waving to the crowds,” said Darren Torrence, director of VRI. “My wife and I saw what happened to him on television, and it really upset us.”
Torrence said VRI provides medical alert services locally, and he said most of the company’s clients are elderly like Woodall.
“Our philosophy is that we treat our clients like they’re our parents or grandparents,” Torrence said. “The people here in the office were really behind doing something in this case.”
Torrence said the company and its employees are putting up $2,000 in hopes that the reward encourages people to come forward if they know something about the crime or the people who committed it.
Tips can be called in to the Dayton police at 333-COPS. Anonymous calls also may be made to Crimestoppers at 222-STOP.
