Former Northmont High School teacher and coach Loren Meadows was convicted in Clinton County Municipal Court on Tuesday, Aug. 18, of misdemeanor resisting arrest.
Misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business and contributing to the delinquency of a minor were dismissed, according to court records.
Meadows was fined $375, plus court costs, sentenced to a suspended 30 days in jail and ordered on supervised probation for two years.
Clinton County deputies discovered Meadows, 35, and a 17-year-old former student, both partially unclothed, in a car parked in front of a deserted house June 23.
According to police, the Union resident gave a false age to officers and briefly wrestled with them.
Meadows, who has resigned from the school district, taught social studies and served as assistant football coach and head boys and girls track coach.
Montgomery County prosecutors on June 30, filed two counts of felony sexual battery against Meadows for alleged acts on the same day he pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges in Clinton County.
Meadows is charged with having sexual relations in April and May with the 17-year-old then-student, according to Union police Chief Michael Blackwell.
“The offense occurred while (the victim) was a student and athlete under Meadows’ supervision,” Blackwell said.
Under Ohio law, a teacher or coach can be charged with sexual battery, a third-degree felony, if the victim is a student or athlete who attends the same school.
A Montgomery County grand jury has been hearing testimony over several weeks on sexual battery charges against Meadows involving the same young woman.
