KETTERING— Kettering Police assisted Dayton police in arresting a copper theft suspect Tuesday, June 16, according to Kettering Police Officer Michael Burke.
Police believe at least two people were involved in stealing scrap metal and copper from the Delphi plant demolition site, 2000 Forrer Blvd. and then selling it to the First Street Recycling, Inc., 1321 E. First St. in Dayton. The metal and copper is believed to be worth about $118, Burke said.
Dayton police got a tip about someone selling scrap metal and copper, and were able to get a description on possible suspects. Dayton contacted Kettering police when their investigation lead them to a suspect in Kettering.
Kettering police arrested one of the suspects, a 25-year-old Kettering man, about 9:30 a.m., for driving under a suspended license, Burke said. The suspect was later booked into the Kettering City Jail.
The other copper theft suspect’s identity and whereabouts were unknown to Burke.
Dayton police will be handling any possible theft charges since the items were sold in Dayton, Burke said.
No other details were immediately available.
