DAYTON — The suspect in an armed robbery and shooting at the Kwik’n Kold drive-through at 1316 Wyoming St. on Saturday, Nov. 14, has been identified by police reports as Mickey A. Fugate, 36.
Fugate is suspected of taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the Kwik’n Kold and shooting an employee before fleeing to a nearby house on Samuel Avenue.
A citizen followed the shooter to that location, according to Dayton police Sgt. Donald Burden.
Following a standoff, Fugate was arrested on nearby Drummer Street without incident. He is facing charges of felonious assault and aggravated robbery, according to police reports.
The employee who was shot, 31-year-old Wayne Sparrow of Dayton, was hospitalized Saturday with injuries police characterized as non-life-threatening. On Sunday, Nov. 15 he was reported in fair condition.
According to police reports, around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, a drive-through employee stated she was in the back of the store counting money when she heard a loud crash near the front of the store.
She said she then came out, she saw an older man, whom she identified as a regular customer, on the floor of the drive-through, and another man standing over him with a semiautomatic pistol in his hand. It’s not clear whether the customer was injured or why he was on the floor.
The employee said she ran back to the bathroom and heard her co-worker, Sparrow, yell for her to call 911.
She then heard “two or three” gunshots, and one or two more several minutes later.
After exiting the bathroom, she called 911 and said she observed the suspect fleeing south down an alley with the cash.
