DAYTON — Mexican Federal Police and U.S. Marshals arrested a sex offender wanted in Montgomery County at the Cancun airport as he deplaned from a flight from Paris, France.
Kenneth Wade Rachal, 29, was wanted on a warrant from the federal court in Dayton for failing to register as a sex offender and fleeing to Mexico in 2009. Rachal also was wanted on state charges of failure to register and violating his parole for a 2005 Greene County conviction for attempted gross sexual imposition of a child under 13.
He was arrested Tuesday and is being deported to Dayton to face both federal and state charges.
Under the federal Adam Walsh Act of 2006, sexual offenders are required to register with federal authorities when they move from one state to another. Rachal could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the federal charge.
“We will take all necessary steps, go as far as we need and work as long as we have to, to get these offenders brought before the court,” said William Taylor, a U.S. Marshals senior investigator. “It is important that the offenders know we will hold them accountable for their registration requirements, and we are diligent in our efforts.”
