Dayton coffee shop to celebrate new liquor license with cocktail party

A downtown Dayton coffeehouse and wine bar will toast the arrival of its freshly minted liquor license with — what else — a cocktail party.

Third Perk Coffehouse & Wine Bar at 46 W. Fifth St. will introduce its new signature cocktails and will pair those libations with cupcakes from Twist Cupcakery at a cocktail party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 30. The cost is $30 per person. Tickets are available online at this eventbrite web link. Tickets will NOT be available at the door, according to its event listing.

The downtown Dayton coffee shop and wine bar applied in August for the state license that would allow it to add full-strength liquor to its menu, in part to take full advantage of the expected increase in activity tied to next year’s opening of Levitt Pavilion, founder and owner Juanita Darden-Jones said.

“I understood from the beginning that the full license would be much more beneficial,” Darden-Jones said at the time. “I lost opportunities to host holiday parties my first year because of the limitations of my (wine-only) license. Although I will not have a full license, I will have the capacity to offer so much more than just wines.”

“I am also preparing for next year’s arrival of the Levitt Pavilion. I really look for that to boost business on our corner,” Darden-Jones said.

3rd Perk has been open for two years at the corner of West Fifth and South Ludlow streets, in space that previously housed The Ohio Coffee Co. and Seattle East coffee shops. It serves coffee, tea and wines, along with a food menu of sandwiches, soups and salads.
