NEAVE TWP., Darke County — A 10-year-old boy drowned Wednesday, June 17, while at a pool party, the Darke County Sheriff’s Office said.

The boy, Jonathan Kinnison, lived with his parents Tiffany and Brian Kinnison at 4581 Clark Station Road, in Liberty Twp. . Brian Kinnison declined comment Thursday.

The boy had just completed fourth grade at Tri-Village Elementary School in New Madison.

Witnesses told deputies that the boy could not swim and was not wearing a flotation device in the in-ground pool.

A teen pulled the boy from the bottom of the pool at 4772 Delisle-Fourman Road, and adults supervising the party administered CPR until emergency crews arrived, according to the sheriff’s office, which indicated that a 911 call from that address was received about 8:20 p.m.

Crews from the sheriff’s office and New Madison Fire Department, as well as Arcanum Rescue arrived on scene, and the boy was flown to Children’s Medical Center in Dayton by helicopter. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

A woman answering the phone at the address where the drowning occurred confirmed that the accident happened during a 4-H club party. She declined to answer any other questions.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.
