HAMILTON — After a year-long investigation, 70 felony drug indictments were issued to 34 suspects Tuesday.
The Hamilton Police vice section, along with assistance from the patrol division and the community oriented policing section, arrested 16 of the 34 suspects on Tuesday. The department continued to search for the remaining 18 suspects Wednesday.
“This is the type of investigation that takes time to build,” said vice section supervisor Sgt. Wade McQueen. “The end results show the efforts and dedication by our officers to get the drugs off our streets, therefore making our city a safer place.”
The investigation was prompted by numerous neighborhood complaints to the vice section about prescription drugs being dealt, especially in the north end of the city, said officer Ryan Beckelhymer, public affairs officer.
“And usually when prescription drugs are being sold, other drugs are involved,” he said.
Individuals usually get a prescription for a prescription drug, and wanting heroin, cocaine or crack but without the needed funds, will trade their pills to dealers in exchange for the street drugs, he said.
Those arrested include:
Mark Cook, 51, charged with four felonies, including counterfeit controlled substances and trafficking in drugs;
