KETTERING — A contractor using an acetylene torch to remove paint from a roof soffit is being blamed for a house fire Monday, Oct. 5, in the 3100 block of Locust Camp Road.

The contractor was using the torch on the outside corner of the single-story brick structure, Kettering Fire Chief Bill Ford said.

A teenager who was at home called the fire department, he said. There were no injuries and a dollar estimate of the damage will come later, Ford said.

Fire crews were sent to 3133 Locust Camp Road at approximately 4:40 p.m. on a report of a structure fire, according to radio dispatch.
