DAYTON — A man suspected of driving while intoxicated drove into the front of his own house Thursday night, Oct. 15, and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital suffering from minor injuries, police said.

The man, whose name and age were not immediately available, was uncooperative and is likely to be charged with OVI (operating a vehicle while intoxicated), Dayton Sgt. Kelly Hamilton said.

A preliminary investigation showed that the man was driving a Chevrolet Blazer at “pretty good speed” about 10:43 p.m. when it rolled through the upward slope of the front yard, ascended three concrete steps and came to rest well inside the front door at 1604 Wyoming St., Hamilton said.

Only the tail lights of the vehicle could be seen from the street.

The SUV was southbound on Steve Whalen Boulevard and failed to stop at the intersection at Wyoming near Highland Avenue, Hamilton said.

Police and fire officials asked dispatchers to send a housing inspector to the address because there was an indication that the two-story house had been heavily damaged.

Police and fire officials also called for an animal control officer to be sent to the address as there was a dog at the residence that needed to be cared for because of the damage to the structure.
