40 Days for Life campaign aims to give women choices other than abortion

KETTERING — David Bereit, executive director for Coalition for Life, was in town Wednesday evening, Nov. 11, to tell an audience of about 65 people at the Women’s Center-Kettering that their work against abortion is making a difference.

“My office is in a corner in my bedroom and where ever my laptop is. And that’s your national organization,” Bereit said. “That’s how you know it’s a God thing.”

His appearance came on the heels of the fifth, 40 Days for Life national campaign. The anti-abortion campaign consists of prayer and fast, a vigil and outreach.

According to Bereit, 678 campaigns have been held in 282 communities in all 50 states.

It also has reached as far as Canada and Ireland.

This is the fourth year for the campaign in Dayton.

Locally, people held a vigil outside the center.

Part of the reason for his stop in the Miami Valley is because Elizabeth’s New Life Center — which offers counseling, parenting classes, spirituality classes, prenatal care, information about resources and more — is a good example of one of the best comprehensive programs, said Bereit, of Bryan/College Station, Texas. “I want to take it and share it with other communities.”

Vivian Koob, executive director of Elizabeth’s New Life Center, said support for a woman who decides to continue her pregnancy is essential.

“It’s the perfect scenario of people trying to get that mother everything she needs.”

Lee Carter, satellite center manager for the Women’s Center, is one of two people at the center who perform sonograms.

She uses 3D-4D technology that shows the fetus’ movements.

Cater said that if such technology was available when she was 21, she may not have made the decision she said she “regrets to this day.”

“You’re thinking of it as a problem, not a baby,” Carter said. “And I needed to fix the problem. I didn’t want to disappoint my parents, or not finish school. And my boyfriend was supportive of (the abortion).”

Carter said women walk around with this “secret sin.”

While it's pretty harsh, I sort of agree with sluggo.

I don't get what these idiot rightwingers want us to do. They want us to have poor ghetto trash who are pregnant actually DELIVER their babies? Why would you want more leeches in our society, we have enough!

While we're on the topic, how about placing NorPlant in every woman on welfare? The plus is that it is 100% safe and 100% reversible, unlike abortion....

What a blessing 40 Days for Life has been to our community. Whenever a woman has an abortion, one person dies and one person is hurt. I hope everyone continues to pray to end abortion.

Who cares. The average recipient of abortion "Choice" are unemployed promiscuous and genetically inferior. So let them do it and stop draining society of their type. Abortion isn't any "right" but it sure does solve many problems. Drug users..abort the baby...prostitutes..abort the baby..gang member with extensive felony convictions...abort the baby...4th generation welfare taker...abort the baby. I am totally pro abortion. Take them all.

Noone is anti-choice: Choice 1. Get off back, keep legs together. 2. Get married, cut or tie things off. 3. Quit trying to convince us that your abortion choice is anything buT birth control. You aren't fooling anyone and like it or not, you are not killing a chimpanzee ...IT'S A HUMAN.

The Anti-Choice people are the very same people who complain about Welfare Babies. What hypocrites!
