MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County — After 11 years of service, Jay Woodhull announced Monday that he will leaving his job as director of Cox Arboretum MetroParks. His last day will be Aug. 26.
“In 2000 I was asked to join Cox to oversee the construction of the campus of buildings that we all enjoy today,” he said. “Eleven years later, I have had the chance to share your enjoyment of the buildings and grounds, to learn by you and with you, and to watch the grounds grow and develop. It has been an enriching and educational experience for me in every possible way. I say goodbye with a deep sense of gratitude for all that you do to make Cox such a special place in and for this community.”
The complex was built after a major fundraising campaign secured $6.3 million.
In January 2008, Cox Arboretum received a $1 million gift from the James M. Cox Jr. Foundation toward the construction of a complex of buildings to support horticulture and grounds staff, volunteers, educational programs and a greenhouse.
It was named the Barbara Cox Anthony Center for Sustainable Horticulture. Mrs. Anthony, daughter of Cox Enterprises founder and former Ohio Gov. James M. Cox, died in 2007.
Becky BennĂ¡, executive director of Five Rivers MetroParks, said MetroParks will be working with Woodhull to complete the transition.
