OAKWOOD — When the Ohio University Bobcats and the Marshall University Thundering Herd of West Virginia collide during the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 26, two Oakwood High School graduates will be on the field in the middle of the battle.
The battle of the marching bands, that is.
Tim Grannen and Matthew McAllister are both members of Ohio University’s Marching 110 and will play during the half-time show at Ford Field in Detroit, according to Grannen, a freshman at OU, located in Athens.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
“To be on the field in a college bowl game, I can’t wait to get there,” Grannen said while taking a break from watching some video footage of past Marching 110 performances at his home on Tuesday.
Grannen, 18, also cannot wait to play his clarinet in the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s Day before the Rose Bowl begins in Pasadena, Calif. McAllister, a junior, will play trombone.
The Marching 110, which has 215 members, was one of three Ohio bands selected to perform in the parade, according to the band’s web site. The other bands include The Ohio State School for the Blind Marching Band from Columbus and the Pickerington Central High School Marching Band.
Grannen and McAllister are two of at least 24 students from the Miami Valley in The Marching 110 who will participate in both the Little Caesars Bowl and the Tournament of Roses Parade. The other students include:
