XENIA — A television viewer led Xenia police to the red Volkswagen Beetle sought in connection with the disappearance of Tiffany Tehan, the 31-year-old Xenia mother missing since Saturday.

But the whereabouts of Tehan and the man who owns the car, Tre B. Hutcherson, remained unknown Wednesday night, April 21.

Police had been searching for the car since Tuesday, when police released surveillance video images of Hutcherson and Tehan at a Watervliet Avenue convenience store.

Police learned that Hutcherson, 42, and Tehan had visited the store frequently in the last few weeks. Hutcherson lives a few blocks from the store, while Tehan works at an insurance agency a few doors away from the store.

Xenia police, acting on information from a WHIO-TV viewer, found the car Wednesday at a car lot along North Dixie Drive in Harrison Twp., Xenia police Capt. Doug Doherty said.

“We believe them to be in a different vehicle now,” Doherty said.

The Volkswagen was being stored an at undisclosed location Wednesday night, he said. He declined to let news crews take photos or video of the car.

Police do not suspect foul play. Still, Doherty stressed that police are still seeking tips and other information on Hutcherson and Tehan. Xenia police can be reached at (937) 376-7200.

In other developments:

  • Butler Township police performed a search of the area surrounding the Sam's Club at 6955 Miller Lane, Wednesday evening, after a citizen reported seeing a male and female walking north in the parking lot matching the descriptions of Tehan and Hutcherson. Police also checked the guest lists of all area hotels for the pair's names. Both searches turned up nothing.
  • Xenia police Capt. Scott Anger on Wednesday told TV crime show host Nancy Grace: “We’ve used other agencies that could be very helpful in bringing this to hopefully, a good resolution. The FBI has been involved and has helped us. ... I can’t elaborate on that.”
  • A $5,000 reward from National Cooperative Bank in Tiffany Tehan’s hometown of Hillsboro has been offered for information leading to her safe return.
  • Tehan’s husband, David Tehan, said he would be shocked if his wife willingly left with Hutcherson. “I’ve never seen this person before,” David Tehan said of Hutcherson. “I don’t know what the connection is.”
  • Diane Tehan, David’s mother, said the family is coming to grips with how the story has unfolded. “The more bizarre the incident, the longer it takes for the human mind to comprehend,” she said.
