WAYNESVILLE — A 17-year-old girl is dead following a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening along Ohio 73.

Around 9 p.m. Thursday, police and medical units responded to the intersection of South Main Street and Ohio 73 in Waynesville. Police determined Alexis Smith, 17, of Beavercreek, was the front right passenger in a 1999 Pontiac Grand AM traveling north of South Main Street.

The Pontiac, driven by Chelsea Miller, 17, of Dayton, was struck on its right side after entering the intersection with Ohio 73. The vehicle was then pushed into a guardrail.

Smith was killed in the crash. Miller was taken to Kettering Medical Center with serious injuries.

Two rear passengers in the Pontiac, Ricky Kemp, 19, of Franklin and Ricky Dixon, 18, of Springboro, were taken to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with critical injuries.

Kemp was ejected through the rear window due to the impact of the crash. He was downgraded to serious condition Friday morning.

Dixon was found by emergency medical services to be trapped in the rear of the car. He remains in critical condition.

Kaleb Shannon, 20, of Waynesville was the driver of the second vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer. Shannon was not injured. Charges are pending.

The Warren County Coroner’s Office is investigating. Crews from Wayne Twp., Waynesville police and the Ohio Highway Patrol responded.

Ohio 73 was shut down in both directions west of U.S. 42 for about a quarter mile, according to witnesses at the scene late Thursday.
