Several Bike to Work Week events have been planned in the Miami Valley, according to Mandi Abner, spokesperson for District 7 of the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Bike to Work started today, Monday, May 17, and ends May 21.
On Wednesday, May 19, the Wright Patterson Air Force Base will be providing free breakfast and bicycle safety classes to base employees, retirees and military members who ride their bikes to the Base Community Center.
On Friday, May 21, Five Rivers MetroParks is offering a free pancake breakfast at the Second Street Market in Dayton to anyone who bikes to work. On Friday afternoon, there will also be refreshments and giveaways will be provided for bike riders at the Washington Twp. Town Hall. Then on Friday night, there will be refreshments served to bikers who stop by Culver’s Restaurant.
ODOT is in the process of constructing bike paths in Kettering, New Carlisle, Sidney and in areas of Miami County.
The state claims to have invested more than $100 million to improve and modernize pedestrian and bicycle routes across the state since 1992.
