YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio — An autopsy has revealed the body found along a bike trail Sunday morning was that of a man who commited suicide.
The body is a white man in his mid-50s. He was found by a resident along a bike trail near Corry Street at 8 a.m. Sunday, according to Yellow Springs police investigator Naomi Penrod.
A .38 caliber revolver was found within inches of the body and the victim died from a gunshot wound to the chest, she said.
The body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s office. The man was not from Yellow Springs, she said, but he was believed to have visited often to attend theater performances.
Penrod also said the man was known to run along the bike path.
“Everyone said he was a pretty happy, social guy,” Penrod said.
A vehicle belonging to the man was found in a public parking lot and it was transported to a private police lot.
