NEAVE TWP., Darke County — A 10-year-old boy drowned Wednesday evening, June 17, while at a pool party, the Darke County Sheriff’s office said.
Witnesses told deputies that the boy, whose name was not released, could not swim and was not wearing a flotation device in the in-ground pool.
A teen pulled the boy from the bottom of the pool at 4772 Delisle-Fourman Road, and adults supervising the party administered CPR until emergency crews arrived, according to the sheriff’s office, which indicated that the office received a 911 call from that address about 8:20 p.m.
Crews from the sheriff’s office and New Madison Fire Department, as well as Arcanum Rescue arrived on scene, and the boy was flown to Children’s Medical Center in Dayton by helicopter. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, which involved a social gathering and party where a number of children of similar age to the victim were in attendance.
