GRATIS TWP., Preble County — A Gratis man had to be evacuated by Careflight helicopter Monday evening, Aug. 3, after wrecking his car on Ohio 122 near Gratis, according to Sgt. Darren Weathington of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jeremy A. Apking, 29, of Gratis remained in fair condition at Miami Valley Hospital on Tuesday morning, a hospital spokesperson said.

Weathington said Apking was traveling along Ohio 122 near Gratis-Jacksonburg Road when he went off the right side of the road at about 9:40 p.m. He apparently overcorrected when driving back onto the street, and he crossed over and went off the left side of the road.

The car went into a ditch, struck a utility pole and a fire hydrant before flipping over and skidding to a stop on its top.
