CLAYTON — The Miami Valley Career Technology Center’s new $6.5 million adult education and administration building doesn’t officially open until Oct. 13, but the medical/health-related classrooms are already packed.
At least 90 percent of the adult students are using various federal and state programs for retraining, many of them former General Motors and Delphi workers.
Half of the new building is dedicated to the medical and health training programs with labs that have the look and feel of hospital wards. There is plenty of classroom space for eight long-term medical/health programs and a plethora of short-time programs.
Students should have lots of room, much more than the space the CTC used to rent at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
“We were crammed into the classroom,” said Deana Myers of Clayton, who is nine weeks away from completing her LPN training.
“We are maxed out in enrollment,” said Ben VanWye, adult education director. “Overall, enrollment in the 16 long-term programs is up 27 percent over last year.”
