The Centerville City Council’s request to stop paying unvoted, inside millage to Washington Twp. will be heard at today’s Montgomery County Budget Commission meeting.

The city pays 0.7 mills of property taxes to the township
annually. As values climb, that amount is up to roughly $460,000.

At the last City Council meeting, Centerville approved a resolution asking the commission “to take all necessary action to end the payment of taxes by Centerville’s property owners to Washington Twp. for no discernable benefit to the city or its residents.”

The township said it uses the money generated by the inside millage to fund projects and services for both city and township residents, including fire and recreation administration, and costs associated with Hithergreen Center and Town Hall Theatre.

The Montgomery County Budget Commission meeting will be at 10 a.m. at the County Administration Building, 451 W. Third St. in the third-floor conference room.
