CLAYTON — It may take city officials another day or so to clear up some roadways that were covered with debris left behind by Monday night’s severe thunderstorms.
There were no injuries reported, but the city had to deal with fallen limbs, downed trees and several incidents involving roof damage, according to Clayton Police Chief Richard Rose.
The worst areas were the neighborhoods surrounding Honeybrook Avenue, Ranch Hill Drive and the Meadowbrook Country Club, 6001 Salem Avenue, Rose said.
The chief estimated that more than 25 old trees came down on the country club’s golf course.
“Very large, old trees that completely came down,” Rose said.
Country Club officials could not be immediately reached for comment. Power was still out at the country club as of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Rose said.
One resident, who lives in the vicinity of Ranch Hill Drive and Honeybrook Avenue, reported to police that his wooden shed was lifted off his property and found elsewhere, fully intact.
The damage done in the city is going to take a couple of days to clean up, according to Rose. The cities of Englewood and Union have offered their assistance to help, Rose said.
“We had not sent a team out there,” said Jeffrey Sites of National Weather Service in Wilmington. Normally, the weather service sends a team when city or county officials contact them about significant damage done after severe weather.
Monday night’s severe thunderstorms produced winds in the range of 60 to 70 mph for the entire Miami Valley region, according to Andy Hatzos, weather service meteorologist.
Moorefield Twp. north of Springfield had an EF1 category tornado with winds whipping up to 90 mph.
