DAYTON — The driver of an Ohio Department of Transportation pickup truck was injured in a crash on northbound Ohio 4 about 8:15 a.m. Friday, April 24, according to a Dayton police officer at the scene.

The road reopened about 10:30 a.m.

The ODOT pickup truck was traveling slowly along the shoulder of the highway when a second truck loaded with concrete blocks ran into the rear of ODOT truck, the officer said.

The impact of the collision knocked the concrete blocks onto the highway, forcing police to shut down those lanes on Ohio 4 until the debris could be removed.

Rescue workers freed the trapped OODT driver about 30 minutes after the crash, and the driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries reportedly are not life-threatening.

Maybe the witness you are speaking of was looking at the wrong driver. I saw what happened and he was NOT driving erratically. He simply drifted, that's it. Also, the driver didn't even have a phone that could text!

Heard from a witness at the scene that the driver of the truck carrying the cinder blocks that hit the ODOT worker had been driving erattically for some time, because he was texting/talking on his cell phone. Go figure! I'm sure that message was so important. Reckless, and unnecessary behavior to say the least.
