Since this is National Consumer Protection Week, March 7-13, Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray is taking the opportunity to travel throughout the state holding free, public forums about consumer fraud, money management, debt control, potential scams and more.
The Dayton Community Forum will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, March 10, at Sinclair Community College in downtown Dayton.
Sinclair President Steven Lee Johnson will open the forum; followed by speakers Cordray; Susan Choe, chief of the attorney general’s Consumer Protection Section; and Jennifer Day, with the attorney general’s Crime Victim Section.
The floor will then be open to questions from the audience.
The event will be attended by a host of community leaders, including Montgomery County commissioners Dan Foley and Debbie Lieberman, Dayton City Commissioner Nan Whaley, county Auditor Karl L. Keith and county Recorder Willis E. Blackshear, according to Kimberly Kowalski, spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office.
Kowalski said the event is intended to help get area consumers the information they need today and in the future.
“We hope to get a sense about what is going on in the Dayton community, and to provide resources as well,” she said.
These statewide consumer forums come on the heels of the inaugural Ohio Consumer Protection Summit, which was held Thursday in Columbus.
During that summit, which was attended by nearly 300 Ohio consumer advocates and activists, Cordray called on leaders and consumer groups to join forces in battling predatory financial practices and fraud.
