BEAVERCREEK TWP. — Greene County homicide investigators are trying to determine what led to the death of a 35-year-old Costa Rican man whose body was found Friday night in a ditch along South Alpha Bellbrook Road in Beavercreek Twp.

The case, originally reported to the Ohio Highway Patrol about 9:30 p.m. Friday, was turned over to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office after investigators determined the victim had not been hit by a passing vehicle.

“It appears the body was left there,” Capt. Eric Spicer of the sheriff’s office’s special investigative unit said Saturday.

The man, who was not being identified pending notification of kin in Costa Rica, was found in a ditch near 145 S. Alpha Bellbrook Road.

The ditch is near an intersection with Indian Ripple Road, south of Beavercreek and west of Xenia.

“We do not know where he was killed at this time,” Spicer said.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The victim had recently moved to the area and begun working in sales for a small roofing company in Xenia, police said. The victim had a passport, but was unsure about his working privileges in the U.S., Spicer said

“He is from out of country, but here working,” Spicer said.

Investigators were struggling to reach people who knew him, Spicer said. They are interviewing contacts, some fluent only in Spanish, and searching for any acquaintances, Spicer said.

“It’s difficult to penetrate those circles,” he said.

Spicer declined to provide other details about the victim’s death or the case.

Investigators are asking anyone who might have known the man or traveled near there Friday night to call (937) 376-5111.
